i beleive some of its a real improvement but doesnt look as good and the layout takes time to get used to.
plus how'd you embed tracks now?
    White Devil Black Metal
  • Strangely enough, I was getting "error connecting" loads with the old layout, none *fingers crossed* with the new one yet. I don't use a lot of features on the site, I just want one that plays music I like when I'm in work, but, and please forgive me if this has been asked/answered already, why doesn't the "skip" button work? or the "stop/play" once you've launched the songs? Thanks for the site :)
  • Things that are better:

    * Your Friends Listening
    * Better integration of loved tracks.

    Things that are worse:
    * Too much spacing, which causes too much scrolling.
    * It's not necessary to show those big artist pictures on the profile page. I like the idea of showcasing your most listened artists, but it causes too much overdue.
    * Recent activity: There's really no need to know that user x posted a shout about band y in april.
    * Top 10 bands of the last 7 days. I know it's accessible by clicking those tabs, but it's easier to not to have to perform an extra click.
    * Tabs: when you click another tab there's a small delay to load the new tracklist (logical). There's a small icon in the right corner telling me I have to wait, but it isn't clear enough. I think the old list should disappear displaying "loading" instead, and then have a clear "loaded" label when the new list is loaded.
    * Avatar + info: I think the profile is not important enough to be displayed in the center of the page. These information is better positioned left or right like it used to be.
    * The lacking of the neighbors on the default profile page.
    * The shoutbox is too far away.
    * http://www.last.fm/charts/artist : the white font on the blue background is difficult to read.

Basically it comes to these 2 points: The important information is too far away, and the less important information is up front.
  • Where are the weekly top artist? and the weekly neighbours?

There are my favourite options of the site. I think this new layout is not functional for my pleasure.

And looks like a really cheap facebook or blog.

Weekly top artists snapshot are at charts -> Browse by weekly snapshot.

Weekly neighbors are not around yet... Sadly. I hope they return.
  • I'd be happy if my shoutbox didn't disappear all the time... -.-

i guess this is where you leave comments about the new site design?

it's way too bright. all this white, light blue, light grey, your eyes kind of glaze over it all. i feel like it needs more contrast, and that there's way too much empty space. and i hate how you can't immediately tell the artist of a particular song, because it's in tiny grey text.

^ i agree, something like this would be a lot better.
  • I don't want the "old site" back necessarily, just for the new layout to be tightened up. It is like facebook now, like people say, but not excecuted anywhere near as good. A poor version of it. Facebook's layout is good. Lots of fuctions, things to do and see but everything is still compact and tight with the things people need to see being more prominent than any rubbish. Last.fm could improve alot in this way.

Plenty of changes in the new facebook but I think it's a big improvement. My problems with the layout here have nothing to do with "getting used to it", it's just nowhere near as functional or nice as it used to be.
  • They should make a faster interface instead of a slower one...

Ok I've never been on these forums before, and I'm not usually the internet-bitchy type, but this site is now a nasty pain in the backside now. I used to use it quite frequently over the past couple of years but it just does my head in every time I visit it since this layout change. I'm not particularly bothered about the dull styling, but everything's really badly laid out and awkward to use!

I'll check back for a couple more weeks to see if you put it back to how it was, but after that I'll just ditch it methinks.. but I'll not hold my breath! It's such a shame, you had such a great site! =(

10% (maximum) of all users don't like this, so they want that the developers restore the old layout _now_. ahah, very democtratic...

I read somewhere that last.fm has around 1.5 million users. I doubt that there is even 1% of confirmed "new design" haters so when trying to apply some real maths to it, it looks even better :>

However, 2 years ago, I hated the old version, because I thought that the previous version was much much better, but after a few days (or week?) I getting to like it. And this is a same situation...

Christ, will people stop using this as an argument? When the previous Last.fm design came about I loved it. It was concise, orderly and presented useful information in a practical way. Didn't look to bad, either.

Now, I've got some 6 useless pictures where, earlier, there was some interesting information about what my friends are/had been listening to (now I get a very limited version of this off to the side somewhere, while 60% of the screen is filled with useless junk or blank space).

Where I could once see my recent shouts on the dashboard, I now have to navigate to my profile and scroll right down, down, down to the bottom, where it's unnecessarily large and extends way below the page into some abyss of extraneous space. The functionality and practicality of the design has plummeted way below that of even Myspace. It's almost Geocities standard.

It's a complete mess. WIth regards to the frontend, I'm hard-pressed to actually think of a single positive change.

Streamline the events and groups sections and shift into the left-hand column, then you've got yourself a neat, concise website that doesn't look like it's been made of lego and charged through by a toddler.

  • I HATE FACEBOOK - AND NOW I HAVE TO HATE LAST.FM TOO

Sorry, but you really made a very big mistake! You lost your own personality and style. Now you are like every shitty website which tries to copy facebook. Shame on you!
  • So when are they bringing back the old interface, honestly?

    Lost recommendations

The reason I listened to last.fm was to not only get to hear the music from artists that I know i like, I could hear artists on the channel that had similar styles and discover them, too. Now I can't find the musicians that have my music choices as the format that i liked is gone. I agree that allowing old users the ability to use the old format would be a good option.
In my business, NEW is usually exciting, but not really the best way to go. It appears that someone looking for kudo's on his/her NEW ideas has made for disgruntled users. Please allow us to be gruntled again.

  • ok, I already found my way around the new layout...and I still think it sucks

  • finally...

Well it took a week...but my player is finally up and running again.

At first, I was pretty upset with how the change was handled...but I guess when you do things like this, you're bound to ruffle a few feathers.

I've used the new Last.fm 2-3 times in the past couple of days, and while I still say the old layout had way more charm and style...the new one isn't the 'terrible' offering it appeared to be on Day 1. Now...I understand a few things have been tweaked in the past few days (stretching out the page was obvious one...and there seems to be a lot less clutter too...)...and we are sure to see more...but I just want to say that I'm still not really happy with how it all went down...and I've only been a member for 3 months...so I can only imagine the frustration that long-time users are feeling right now.
  • Hey, my radio seems to be working now. So i love the new last.fm now. I think it's better than the old one.
  • another little bug

If you're not logged in and trying to add a friend, there is the normal error message ('u have to be logged in.... bra'). But there are also the buttons 'OK' and 'Cancel'. If you press OK, there will be the same box with the same error message, but with just one button ('OK' afair). Found by accident a few days ago.

  • I fucking HATE this new website

That's all I want to say. ARGHHHH

I don't want the whole front page taken up with who is listening to Mariah frickin Carey and who LOVES Jesse McCartney,

    Err... vomit, vomit.

Player only from this day forth.
  • dashboard

i want the dashboard feature of showing the last FEW TRACKS played by friends

not just the very last one they played... what use is that?
  • The new gay-looking layout sucks. I'm afraid I will stop visiting last.fm...
  • Well.. I like it!

Haha! It took a few minutes to get used to it. But yeah I like it!
  • I have a high-end PC.
I have the latest software updates.
I have a relatively good broadband connection...

    AND LAST.FM LAGS HORRIBLY.

I dont care what the site looks like; its not functional. I havent been able to play a single file- I havent had the patience. And I'm a patient person. After testing this on a few other people's PCs I've determined that most users will NOT be able to use the site in any practical manner.

LAST.FM, YOU JUST LOST THE MAJORITY OF YOUR USERS.
