Most tracks no longer playable...

  • Most tracks no longer playable...

My overall top 50 now has 16 playable tracks, while it used to have about 40. I'm not overly bothered by that since I don't tend to use last.fm to listen to individual tracks, but similarly, I tended to usually only add playable things to my playlist - I'd say at least 90% of the songs on it were available on the radio; sometimes I'd add stuff in the hopes it'd become available later and start being playable - but now half of the songs on it aren't available any more, seemingly even as previews?

Have I missed something/is there a reason for this/is it a glitch/is it going to be remedied any time soon?
  • The same thing happened to me, I think it has something to do with license issues or something like that.

have had the same problem :( ...
  • I've noticed it so far with Scarlett Johnasson and Joni Mitchell, my guess would be that their contract ran out with certain record labels and they have yet to renew them

This was a bug that crept in, it should be fixed now!

FYI, music is not licensed through individual record labels; it's done through music licensing companies, mostly ASCAP and BMI. Usually you get a blanket license from those two and it covers every song under their umbrellas; which is just about every song you know that wasn't made in your local indie band's basement (and even some of those)

For instance I was an indie rapper some years ago, and I still have my ASCAP membership. I get letters to my PO box every quarter telling me how I have no royalties this quarter. lol!
  • yes, and not only.

The entire system is slow, datas are weekly updated (incorrectly), music took FOREVER to be considered by that "Smart engine" that mostly says "oooops".
the worst is that IT WAS BETTER IN THE OLD WAY.

Finally, I sent here people from myspace and reverbnation, and i regret it, i received a pack of mails with "hey, having a profile there is a pain in the ass, i had to select 15 bands, 45 songs and god knows what else just to push play on my playlist .. internet is for making life easier guys .. EASIER!!

    Regards.

    Ice.
  • lost tracks

consider that maybe some artist is cancelling his account and delete the tracks .. it could be a reason you can't find em on your playlist anymore.

Actually that's not true, we license music both from labels individually and from aggregators such as BMI. This also varies from country to country.
