Can't listen to playlist in client

  • Can't listen to playlist in client

When I try to play my playlist in the software, it plays sequentially and only the 30 second previews for most songs. The flash player in the playlist section of the website works correctly (though not the one on the profile page).

Is the client not able to distinguish between subscribers and non-subscribers?
  • Just the same!
I already wrote to the support. Hope they solved it!

Very annoying bug :( I hate having to use the flash player at all
I thought they would be ready with a update to the client to accommodate all the new features of the site :/

  • Apparently you have to subscribe now to listen to a full playlist due to licensing issues
  • Everyone who has posted above is a subscriber. That's the issue... Subscribers can only listen to their playlists in the flash player right now.

I am a paid subscriber - and I'm having the same problem!

    Me too

Just wanted to pitch in and say I'm having the same problem - very annoying! I hope they get an update out for the client soon.

    Me seven

Yes, its very annoying that I cant listen to my playlist in the client.
Especially since I am on traveling foot at them moment and I cant access all the music I have at home, last.fm radio and my playlist especially is crucial to my mental health! :)
And I cant even listen in the flash player, only 30 sec snippets. :(
  • Do you suppose they'll have to release a new version of the client before it'll work?

Looks like the problem is pretty widespread which hopefully means we will get a fix pretty soon.

e-mat, I hope you are right, because it's the same here: I re-installed everything that was suggested in the other forums and threads, and still not able to play anything from my playlist.
  • Follow up

I have 2 playlists, 1 of which is as I said, only playing 30 second previews, and in sequential order. I have found that the other playlist I have is playing full songs, but also in sequential order.

So, say, if you make two identical playlists (if possible) one might, at least partly, work?
  • I wrote yesterday to the support after I made my first playlist with 46 songs. I`ve been a user for 2-3 days and 2 days I was adding songs to the list with the hope to play it and at the end I heard only 30 seconds of each song and after some time this topic came. Now I am listening the playlist via flash, but it is not the same. The player is much more advanced. The strange thing is that the flash plays the songs randomly and plays the full lenght of the songs and the software player starts from the first and plays then every song for only 30 seconds. I hope that this is a BUG, because there is one other posibility, but I hope I am wrong about that. I took a time and saw the FAQ page at the old desing. This FAQ page in the new look is different and does not contain some questions. So at the old one there was a section called something like On-Demand-Play. That service was ONLY awailable in USA and in two or three more countries. If your IP is from there, you can listen to all songs on demand if they have a black circle with a triangle (the play button :)). You know what I mean. But if you are NOT from these countires, you get only 30 sec preview. This is so unfair, but that was ONLY for the songs in the site and did not affect the playlists, loved tracks, radio stations and etc. But when I saw that, I did not have 45 songs in my list, so I did not have the chance to listen my playlist and test it. The moment they put the new design, the FAQ was changed and these questions are missing now and I get only 30 sec. preview when I listen to my list in the software player. I was very angry, because that way the subscription is useless, but then I saw this topic. Now I am listening my list from the flash and this gives me some hope that this is a BUG and not a descision.

P.S. Sorry for the long post :)

A hacky way to get a playlist playing in the client without it being 30 sec previews.

First make sure playlists are set to play in the flash player and not the client.
If you set the client playing any Station Loved Tracks, My Radio station, etc.
Then set the playlist you want to listen to playing from it's flash player version.
Go back to the client and skip to next song.. it will skip through 5-6 tracks then tune into the playlist that is playing in the flash player.
Go back to your browser and stop the playlist running in the flash player.
Sometimes you will get a invalid ticket message but the majority of the times it works for me.

  • Thanks RoBz88 ! The hack worked, but when are they going to fix the software...

I almost exclusively used my client application to listen to my Last.fm playlist. Now all but my first 200 songs are deleted, and I can only listen to 30 second previews?

Hmm, this really is terrible. What were they thinking?!

P.S. I am a paid subscriber. I even paid several months in advance. Foolish me!

They limited the size of playlist to 200 due technical difficulties when playlists were larger.
Though now you can have multiple playlists so it sorta makes up for the limited number.
The 30 sec previews is a bug with the the client, follow my directions above and you can play playlists normally in the client.

    Hi RoBz88,

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately when I get to the part of your "hack" to skip ahead to the next song in the client, that's exactly what it does. It doesn't ever tune into the playlist that's stream from the browser.

    I'm running Linux+Firefox - maybe that makes a difference. Who knows ...

By the way, inquiring minds want to know what "technical difficulties" means here. I'm trying to interpret what that means given that multiple playlists seem to alleviate the problem. As an engineer myself, it seems to me that a simpler correction should be possible so long as the problem itself is actually technical in nature and not bureaucratic.

  • The technical difficulties as I understand them are due to longer playlists causing the playlist view / editing page to load very slowly or, in some cases, not at all. Splitting the playlist into multiple pages would probably not be an option, as it would make re-ordering the items in the playlist more cumbersome and there would be issues such as what should happen if you move a track from the top of one page to the bottom of the previous page. Should you stay on the current page or move to the page the track moved to?

Then why not move the playlist editor to a client-side application?

  • CRAP!!! I was listening to my Playlist just a while ago, I'm not a subscriber, in the software. I was able to do this cause the old web style had a button that allowed the Playlist to be played on the site or the software. I came to make one change and what do I see, the button is gone. Now I can't listen to MY Playlist in the software. So does anybody know how to get around this?

Now that the site has changed, for the worse I might add, I don't know if that will be happening. The Play this playlist is working for me now, although most of the songs that were full tracks only play for 30 seconds.
