Shortly following the release of What Would the Community Think Marshall disappeared from the musical scene, initially working as a baby sitter in Portland, Oregon and then moving to a farmhouse in Prosperity, South Carolina with boyfriend Bill Callahan (who performs under the name Smog). The plan was to permanently retire from music but during a sleepless night resulting from a nightmare, Marshall wrote several new songs. These songs would make up the bulk of Moon Pix. The album was recorded at Sing Sing Studios in Melbourne in eleven days with backing musicians Mick Turner and Jim White of the Dirty Three. [1] The album was well-received by critics, and gained her recognition in the indie rock scene. However, during the subsequent tours she grew tired of her own material. This resulted in a series of shows during 1999 involving Marshall providing musical accompaniment to a series of screenings of the silent movie The Passion of Joan of Arc.

one of my really cool college english teacher's told me a story just like that. His first time seeing Cat Power was great, but his second time he said Chan didn't really put out a good show.

i've had two different experiences seeing her live, the first time was amazing, she was with the memphis rhythm band and seemed to have so much fun with them, talk to the audience a lot, etc. the second time was at osheaga where she seemed miserable, only did covers, read lyrics off a sheet of paper and then backed off stage apparently saying "i cant, i cant"...so i dont know if ill go see her again.

Cat Power has always taken me away to a place that doesn't really exist in the real world, a world where it's always dark and the people you find are few and far between, but always devastatingly interesting. That's what Chan is, devastatingly interesting and absolutely beautiful in every way.

Moon Pix is good enough. Everything else I've heard is mind-numbingly dull.

yeah i dont think its the same release, the sun is another different thing...the EP, are the songs that did not make into JUKEBOX a sort of CD TWO as on INRAINBOWS,and these are songs chan performs live, all the time, so it's only natural, im excited to see this, although i wish the sun would come out first, i wanna see some chan original stuff, she excells at that...

she sucks live???? well not last june in berlin where i saw her from the first row. sorry for ryue65 and his bad experience, maybe just a matter of luck, but i found her amazing live, her voice was as beautiful as on cd, and there was no problems with the sound in general.
