Chichino - bringing the groove back!
Chichino is the name of the Leeds based band who create and present their contagious fusion of funk and soul with an exuberant enthusiasm calculated to push your get-up-and-dance button. The musical references and influences are impeccable, the best in the business: Jamiroquai, The Brand New Heavies, Stevie Wonder, Jools Holland to name a few.
Narelle Brooksbank, whose stylish presence, powerful voice and elegant keyboard skills front the band, recites the names of acid jazz, soul and funk legends with the reverence they deserve, to nods and smiles of agreement from her three fellow band members, drummer Andre Siron, guitarist Gary Williams and bassist John Fowles.
All over the UK, the band’s reputation is growing fast. They have played at numerous festivals this summer, including the Gosport Waterfront Festival where they supported 70’s superstars Rose Royce and the Karen Millen Christmas party in London supporting Mica Paris.
Chichino have also hosted their own radio shows this year. “Radio Chichino” was broadcast daily in May on Leeds Eleven FM. The shows featured the music that influenced Chichino, retro Leeds sounds, Leeds funk & soul music and up-and-coming bands from the South Leeds area.
