“Hétoïmasia” (in the Greek alphabet, “ἑτοιμασία”) is ancient Greek for “preparation”; more specifically, it refers to the preparation of the Throne for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ in Christian theology, generally depicted as an empty throne (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hetoimasia). The subject of the empty throne is a common motif in artwork going back millennia, though its meaning has changed alongside religious beliefs; alongside Christ and/or God the Father, it has represented Zeus in ancient Greek artwork and the Buddha in Buddhist artwork, amongst other figures.
