i feel like doing one of those 'top 50' surveys, but i'm going to use my rolling 3 month 50 instead of all-time, because i listened to a lot of shit in 2005 that i can't erase.
1. How did you get into 30?
Golden Arm Trio. they're on the Scanner Darkly soundtrack. actually, pretty much the only thing on it, so it's bound to make it to my top list.
2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22?

Electrified from the HaLo compilation.
3. What's your favorite lyric by 33?

Recent Purchases - Dec 2007
30 Dec 2007, 22:07 by Televiper
Nuturally December wasn't a heavy month for new CD purchases. I figure this will collect everything I bought in December. I didn't get any music as gifts. I did get some money from my Grandma but that money went to DVDs instead.
Various Artists - Cinemaphonic 2: Soul Punch
This collection of hard funk orchestra library music features my favourite artist of the genre Syd Dale. Syd Dale does a great song called Hell Raisers which you would immediately recognize from menu montages on "Simply Weird Video" releases. Unfortunately that song doesn't appear here but some other really cool stuff does.
artist]Various Artists - Bite Harder: The Music De Wolfe Studio Sampler Volume 2
Music De Wolfe is library label that collects a lot of soundtrack work. They have some amazing orchestra hard funk that originally appeared in blaxsploitation movies and cop shows during the 70's. The library is also a primary sample source for many great hip-hop producers.
Jimmy McGriff - Groove Grease
This was sort of a random purchase. It's a great album with lots of funky grooves on it. It needs more listens though.
Napalm Death - Scum
Awww.. the classic album re-released with a 45 minute DVD documentary.
Jah Wobble - Betrayal
This is a great album, especially when he gets into the whole "dreadlocks don't do wedlocks" thing.
Nomo - NuTones
Awesome soul/funk album.
Holy Fuck - Holy Fuck LP
The name says it all.
Venom - Black Metal
Another classic metal album.
The Ghastly Ones - Unearthed
A collection of out takes mostly focused on their first and sadly out of print album [album artist=The Ghastly Ones]A-Haunting We Will Go-Go[album]. Everything is rawer, edgier, and dirtier with 100% more organ grinding. -
[The Word] Jah Wobble, Sinead O'Connor & Boy George w/ Terry Christian
13 Jul 2007, 14:01 by IanAR
Philip M, over at Groups.Yahoo.com/group/Wobble, found this YouTube video of Jah WobbleJah Wobble & Sinéad O'ConnorSinéad O'Connor (after playing
Visions of YouJah Wobble's Invaders of the Heart), being interviewed by Terry Christian, on The Word (UK TV), (Season 2, Episode 14) - Boy George shares the sofa, too.
Terry's characteristically oafish in drawing his guests, away from highbrow artistic talk, into light celebrity chit-chat. Wobb's reaction's to take what he wants from the questions and fly us off on a soliloquy relating the antiquity of worldbeat-crossovers and the spirituality of the creative process. Ms O'Connor, in keeping with her reputation at the time, practically blanks Terry's more lowbrow questions.
One must admire Terry Christian's "front". As I remember it, this level of - err - cooperation was an ongoing theme of the programme.
Was that ground breaking? The depth of the show was something like that of Blue Peter (not the language), fitting with it's after pub closing time slot. These days, lowbrow arts programmes are a regular part of the UK TV landscape, back then - over fifteen years ago, artists were often slightly taken aback to pour their heart's out, in a performance, then be expected to spend seven minutes talking crap. -
Recent Acquisitions - 2007.07.11
12 Jul 2007, 03:37 by ConsumerComrade
I get most of my new stuff from e-music these days so that's where all of these came from. Here is a list of my most recent acquisitions:
The Damage Manual - The Damage Manual. The lineup of agro-industrial innovators here speaks for itself: Martin Atkins, Geordie Walker, Chris Connely and Jah Wobble. And unlike other ‘supergroups’ which tend to be ill-conceived mash-ups of otherwise talented players, these guys deliver the goods.
Talkdemonic - Beat Romantic. A lush and emotional post-rock album centered on Lisa Molinaro’s viola playing. Very beautiful.
Pain of Salvation - Remedy Lane. This is Progressive Metal in every sense of the word. For me prog is a loaded term because I over indulged in the genre back in the prog heydays of the early and mid 70’s. And like many others of my age, I eventually became disillusioned with the emotional dead end that lead to and joined the ranks of the punk backlash. After many years I’m able to listen to and appreciate quality prog again but anything that reminds me of those conservative, ponderous and self indulgent bands of my youth still leaves me feeling uneasy. Of course modern prog is a totally different story and Pain of Salvation does a great job here but I still find it a bit of a mixed bag emotionally.
O Yuki Conjugate - Equator. I’ve been on an ambient kick for the last year or so and this fits right in. To be honest I don’t listen to ambient very critically and instead usually just let it wash over me while I either relax or do something else. That means I’ve got more than my share of ho-hum ambient groups in my collection because it’s pretty easy to plug a bunch of synths together and pump out the drone. But O Yuki Conjugate is definitely not ho-hum. They mix a wide range of organic sounds from acoustic instruments with a sort of darkwave approach to electronics. Cool.
Duane Harkness (a.k.a. Consumer Comrade)
