I am not sure what that says about me. Does it mean I am not as open to new musical choices as I once was? Or because I no longer work in the entertainment field, has my tolerence for bullshit finally vanished?
A quick overview of my Top Ten Albums on Last Fm.
First up Passing Stranger. This is one of those new artists I was refering to. I can't believe he has made it to the top of my album chart so quickly.
I wish this artist was streamable on last Fm so I could leave you with a little soundclip of this guy and this album because it would surely leave you wanting more.
I first heard him through a happy accident. I went into work one day and someone had re-tuned the radio to Radio One, the most banal and crappy radio station in the UK. I was too busy to re-tune it to a decent station and I am so glad I was because on came
It is a deceptive little song, quiet and unassuming but gets under your skin and you can't get enough. I went out and bought the album the very next day. From the first listen I was glad. It is a classic of an album. There are comparisions to Jeff Buckley and Nick Drake and these are justified. You can hear it in the soulful singing and the precise and beautiful guitar playing, but there is something that is undeniably Scott Matthews. And he is a very funny guy to boot. Seen him live.
Next up is Thomas Dybdahl. Another relative newcomer to my charts. I discovered him in June of this year. I blogged about it here. It is the album One Day You'll Dance For Me, New York City that made it to the second spot on my chart. Everything I wanted to say about that album is in that blog.
Bliss.
I'm not surprised it is that high on my charts. I listened to it exclusively for about two months. I discovered him on Last fm. My best find to date! Also seen him live. Check out A Lovestory and Henry. The title track is amazing also. (But too long to type out.....)
Next up is a surprise. It's Analogue. It's a surprise because although a-ha are my favourite band, this is NOT my favourite album of thiers and can only assume it was my almost complusive listening to
Number four in my Top Ten is back to Thomas Dybdahl and his debut album this time That great october sound
I cannot recommend this guy enough to everyone. This album is a lot more raw and rockier production wise, but he still has his signature velvet voice and some amazing tracks. Probably his most popular being
Number Five is Memorial Beach This is more like it. This album finally knocked Scoundrel Days from it's place of favourite a-ha album when it was released in '93. I still listen to it at least once a week. Fantastic songs, thier 'rock' album. Dark, a huge risk for them and just the most coherent album they ever made. Highlights are many but my favs are
As always I have waffled on. 6 - 10 another day.
