The band consisted of Toshi (vocals), YOSHIKI (drums, piano, composer, lyricist), hide (guitar), Pata (guitar), and Taiji/Heath (bass), until 1997 when they disbanded.
Once Yoshiki and Toshi recruited bassist Taiji and guitarists hide and Pata, the band began moving on the indie circuit. They garnished abundant support and fans across Japan with their outrageous dress style.
They used long, dyed hair and leather, along with makeup to make themselves shocking to the people who went to see them. This look, and their musical styling of fast, heaving, hard driving speed metal, mixed with softer and more heartfelt ballads, was the defining origin of today’s visual kei bands.
However, in 1996, after the release of their fifth and final album, DAHLIA, Toshi announced that he was departing from the band, for his own reasons - rumored to do with his wife disliking the band, ie: his time commitment and also with their performance of mostly sad, downbeat songs. Rather than go on without Toshi, the following year X JAPAN announced it was breaking up. At the end of the year, they had their final concert.

I'll say Alive is the most underrated X song, considering how much attention all the other ballads/love/ songs get. Both versions of Unfinished are great too.

Kurenai solo is definitely win~

hmm. i think the funniest guitar solo is stab me in the back though. hide just take the back seat while pata shreds his guitar. i found sadistic desire solo (both the original and '95 version) not bad (sufficient harmony and solo).

miscast and silent jealousy have on of the best solo's from X. and kurenai of course
-
ZimZum86 wrote:
YES!! MISCAST is such a good song, the guitar riffs have that really distinctive carnal rhythm which is in all great rock music, and THAT solo, well...

while XClamation is more bass-orientated, love replica is more guitar orientated. both are unique in their own sense, but i prefer XClamation. yea Jealousy had alot of hide contributions, comparing to other albums.

In many ways 'Love Replica' is a fitting 'sequel' to 'XClamation' but would also feel more at home on the Dahlia CD. What I loved about Jealousy was that it wasn't as dominated by Yoshiki's songwriting as much as Blue Blood, not that I dislike Yoshiki's songs but it's nice to hear different styles getting a look in.

one song that seriously is out of X JAPAN context is love replica. a random hide song added to jealousy (although it does spice up the album by a little)

I'm not a big fan of Blue Blood. Weird, right? Dahlia, Vanishing Vision and Art of Life are all excellent.

XClamation is a great instrumental track, the bass lines and guitar riffs are great. Easy Fight Rambling is also a song of theirs I like, nice punhc your first in the air chorus along with a heavy groove which is soemthing you don't hear often in X JAPAN songs, well except for the ones written by hide.
