I did mean people in general. You are being too pessimistic. Consider how many people make music these days? In the eighteenth century, someone like you probably thought it was a good thing that there werent many composers, and look at music now. It is by far the most consumed art form in popular culture. If more people were to write poetry, there woudl be more good poets. There would be more bad ones too, but who gives a fuck? And poetry being uncool has a lot to do with it. People look down on the writers of poetry. It is seen as borgeouis/immature/pathetic to most people, and that stigma keeps it out of peoples lives, which is inarguably terrible. Anyway, most modern poets are a bit shit. Carol Ann Duffy? Simon Armitage? Great English poetry died with Wilfred Owen, and great Americal poetry died when the beat poets did. In fact, poetry as a popular art form in general died when Robert Zimmermann picked up a Woody Guthrie LP and a guitar.

I've given First Issue and Metal Box a few listens the past couple of days, and they definitely sound interesting! I also like the guitar sound and the rawness of the songs, however, I think I will need a few more focused listens to get a real opinion. And they are not the easiest band to interview from what I've seen on youtube.. :-)

So Marquee Moon sounds like the White Stripes..!? It would be funny to see Tom Verlaine and Billy Ficca dressing up in matching red and white while playing catchy riffs, but I fear that train has passed... :-) How was the Wire concert?

it was all right. the best parts by far were the old bald guy jumping up and down in front of the stage, who started using the stage to jump even higher, and some drunk old jackass who said "Tell me everything u know about john peel" while trying to put his arm around Gedge after the show (Gedge laughed awkwardly saying "uh what do you want to know" and fled behind the merchandise table). I also liked when he sang "we don't do requests."

Sounds like a good show, and old guys dancing is always a great joy to watch, I suppose.. :-) I believe the fast rhythm guitars are to blame... Object 47 grows on me as well, and I catch myself humming "Mekon Headman" constantly. I just can't get it out of my head.. I'm sure that will be a great show tomorrow! I see you listen to Public Image Ltd. quite a bit. This band has somehow avoided my musical radar for quite a while. The only thing I have is a live recording from the late 80s, which is ok but not fantastic. However, I think all those songs are from their later era, and I believe their setup was quite different in the early days. Is Metal Box the place to start?

i'm guessing they'll play 5 or 6 songs from el rey and the rest will be old classics like Kennedy and Dalliance. thats what i hope anyway. mbv was devastating, in a good way. i'll be the tall guy w/ red hair if u wanna say hi.

"The most fascinating thing about Wedding Present is probably that they were knowns as the band with the worlds fastest rhythm guitar in the early days." yea with drumming to match.

I read about that show. J Mascis, Thurston Moore and Nels Cline in addition to Verlaine sounds like a lot of guitars in one night! I really like the sound of Jazzmasters as well, but I think Verlaine has used another guitar on his most recent shows (at least those I've seen on youtube..) I read a guy on the Television mailing list had taped this show and would put it on dimeadozen, so hopefully it will be possible to hear it.. Seems like it was a 30min jam around 'Day on You'. By the way, have you heard his cover of "The Hawk", a Kris Kristofferson song? It's on a tribute album from around 2000, and it's really great! I don't know anything about Kristoffersons music though..
