RAWR! JurassicRock II Entry!

25 Aug 2008, 18:26

Fri 8 Aug – Jurassic Rock

Better late, than never, eh?
Here comes a short report from the 2nd Jurassicrock at Mikkeli, Finland.
Since I'm suffering from a frequent loss of words, I'll use some pictures instead.

The friday was a bit of fiasco, with too much alcohol and a missed gig. But at least we got to see PMMP and Ismo Alanko Teholla, which was the saving act for the day with a great set of old and new songs, ranging from Sielunveljet to BLANCO SPIRITUALS.

(haha, ismo's ass is very well presented above :3)

Saturday was about to have a same miserable start, but fortunately I made it to Kauko Röyhkä & Mikkelin kaupunginorkesteri, which really made my heart melt. Especially the arrangement of Sateinen päivä. (Although there was so few people, I felt ashamed for the audience--)

After Kauko, I hung around a bit and then went to spend next few hours in front of the main stage waiting for Amorphis and Mokoma, the two mighty ones.
The weather wasn't as bad as the day before, but it still was rainy and the front of the stage had already turned into a mud bath.
(I fearfully waited, if there was going to be a pit during Mokoma in these conditions--)

As always, Amorphis threw a brilliant gig and singer Tomi Joutsen's dreadlocks were dead sexy...

The most personal moment of the rainy festival for me, was of course Mokoma's gig. With the pouring rain and the sound I had longed for I was reduced to mere feeling. Tears, joy, excitement, aggression. There hasn't been any other band yet to guide me through those intense emotions both on album and during live performances.

I let myself become a pathetic fanboy once more and brought the "Marko Nassukka"-paper. Though it seemed that it was going unnoticed by the band this time, I gave it a shot when Marko Annala approached our end of the stage during Marras- It paid off! For a brief moment, Marko just stared straight to the paper... (and me.) And there was the tiniest bit of smirk on his face. That was enough for me, nothing more I could have asked from this festival.

After Mokoma, I couldn't get myself excited over Turisas, so I stuck around only for a few songs and then hit the camping area with my friends to enjoy some booze.

But even if Mokoma's gig had been once again a perfection, it still wasn't the absolute best gig of the festival. That was the totally unknown norwegian band's, Animal Alpha's totally intoxicating raging performance which really set me and my friends on fire. Ugh, can't remember when was the last time I had jumped around 'til complete breakdown and exhaustion... and still been that happy!

All in all, I loved the whole festival to bits, even if we came back extremely tired and muddy and beat down. It was the perfect end for this summer's festival frenzy.
