They do have a pretty good smoking area now, and I didn't get scolded for blatantly taking pictures... but the drink prices are still bad, and the cocktails are tiny. I have a few swigs before I go in. Also: there is not enough floorspace.

I'm new to San Francisco from NYC. I've noticed that the majority of the bands I like play at Mezzanine. BUT WHY??? The sound is horrible. The space is horrible. The location is Crackville. I'm so pissed at the promoters who are in bed with this venue. My poor Presets deserve better than this dump, damn it! Band managers who OK this stop on the tour should be given a serious spanking.

I like the space, but yes, the drink prices are ridiculous. I got asked for $15 for a cocktail downstairs - went upstairs and got the same thing for $8. Some bartenders must be trolling for extra pocket money.

the worst live venue i've been to in sf. besides the high drink prices, the fact that smokers can't pop out for a cigarette break & their rediculous camera policy, it's just not set up for live shows. awful to see fantastic performers have to crawl onto stage from under a backdrop that looks like it's from a jr.high play, and then play their set on a tiny stage in the corner of the room. shameful.

A pretty good venue tucked away behind the Old Mint, much larger on the inside than it looks from the front. Plenty of room on the dancefloor, and a comfortable balcony area. But if you're going to drink, do it before you go in. They have a no in & out policy, which they take full advantage of by charging insane prices for drinks. $6 for a Newcastle? $4 for a bottle of Bud? Ouch.
