The original “Electric Factory” venue was a converted tire warehouse at 22nd and Arch Streets, which opened in 1968 and closed in 1973. The first performers, on February 2, 1968, were the Chambers Brothers.
The “Electric Factory” was resurrected circa late 1994 or early 1995 and now stands at the current site (located at 421 N. 7th Street between Willow and Spring Garden Streets) which is an actual converted electric factory. The standing-room-only capacity is approximately 2500 to 3000 people, including the second-floor area which overlooks the stage from stage left. Spectators in this area often have the bonus of being able to view a portion of the backstage.
The venue regularly features major musical acts, mostly of the heavy metal, rock and grunge genres.

When I saw Lou Reed there back in April, they were definitely more lax about letting people in, and also about liquor (ie they didn't make you stay upstairs if you wanted a beer).

Their security sucks. They make you empty all your pockets and then pat you down. If they can't tell what's in your pockets from feeling them, they shouldn't be working a door. Plus they have some weird, arbitrary rules about what constitutes a "professional" camera.

Just saw Andrew Bird and the New Pornographers there last night -- when did they start frisking people and confiscating pens at the door?
