What’s the difference between city pop and 80s Kayo idol pop music? Hard to differentiate between them. Even j-fusion such as Takanaka, t-square, and CASIOPEA made music that sounds like them.

City pop has a strong Western influence - jazz, funk, and disco into its sound. Its urban and sophisticated atmosphere. While idol music (kayo or not) focuses more on the personalities and appearances than music. But there can be overlap between the two genres. Ex: Wink.

Oh thanks for the details. It’s strange that Japan has been steaming up so many unique scenes just like the US. Not saying other countries don’t have music scenes but it seems japan has developed their own things. No wonder people meme about thing Japan :O Still digging American music and British music tho cuz it’s original. anyway I’ll dig more of them. Sometimes I feel like listening to all kinds of J-music.
