been really enjoying it as well lately, and it was quite possibly the biggest highlight of the concert I went to last time they were here

I love this album so much but honestly over a year and a half later... some of the songs just sound so depressing for some reason. like every single measure on this record is gorgeous, dgmw, but something about the soundscapes in Certainty, Sparrow, Flower of Blood, Dried Roses, Wake Me Up to Drive, Simulation Swarm, The Only Place, and Blue Lightning just make me extremely sad. the lyrics are often sad too, but the timeless and rootsy sonic palettes are just brutal 😪✨

I feel this?? But could not articulate it. Before the songs felt fresh & affirming, but now I experience them differently. The mood feels more serious to me, like the magic they were singing about was partially an illusion. Marching to a hopeful tune that hasn't brought me forward. This is only how my perception has changed though, not related to the quality of the music or the songwriters' experiences, as you mentioned.

Grows and grows and grows on you. These songs performed live are just incredible, different beasts entirely.

For some reason, the first time I listened to this record I knew it would become one of my favorites. It turns out my gut feeling was right. Every time I hear it, I stumble upon new jewels that shine like embers. Its eclectic sound reminds me a lot of Yo La Tengo's I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One, which produces the same effect in me. There is something so special about delivering a long, non-conceptual album that still feels cohesive and rewarding after finishing it; the scattered fragments realign differently in every listening. And don't get me started on Adrianne Lenker's lyrics; they are pure and delicate poetry (for example, the description of eyelashes soft as ashes in Promise is a Pendulum). Pure love to DNWMIBIY <3 <3 <3

I'd say "LIFTED or The Story Is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground" by Bright Eyes is generally pretty similar. both that and this one are some of my favorite records ever. also Boat Songs by MJ Lenderman was a super awesome alt-country record that came out last year too.

The first time I listened to this I didn't like it, but without realizing I started it again as soon as it finished and the next day bought tickets for their show coming to me in Dec. Beautiful album that grows on you in the best way
