Biography
Addicted to MTV by the age of three, Cristina Bautista found her calling very early in life. Without thinking much of it, she began writing songs about things she barely understood (love, heartbreak, disappointment, etc.), mimicking the most pop of pop music. After moving to Seattle in 1999, she discovered the thriving local indie scene and actively sought to become a part of it. At the age of 14, Cristina started the band Paxil Rose and began playing shows at local venues to regional acclaim.
Now 19 and writing songs about things she almost completely understands (love, heartbreak, disappointment, etc.), the 4'11" dynamo is embarking on her first solo outing. Recorded with renowned producer Joe Reineke (Pavement, the Mieces, Schoolyard Heroes), the debut EP "This is the Team" boasts four deceptively sweet songs true to Cristina's pop roots. Taking cues from the likes of Elvis Costello, Matthew Sweet and Liz Phair, she tells the tale of growing up, fighting desperation and finding out that maybe, bittersweet as it may be, she's better off alone. -Molly Aufrey
