Which ever way you feel about this guy (I don't especially care for him), he changed the face of American music and, therefore, the world.

The closest I ever got to Elvis was when "Big Boy" Crudup passed through Manchester back in the 1960s, staying the night with friends down the road. A very courtly gent, who reminisced about the dangers of being a blues singer in the Southern USA in the mid-Twentieth century. I can't remember if we ever got him talking about Elvis, but it was good that his career kept going. He wasn't one of the true Blues greats, but he was very decent and he will always be linked with this track which genuinely was a seminal track in the evolution of Rock and Roll.

Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup (also known as “Pop” Crudup) (August 24, 1905 – March 28, 1976) was a delta blues singer and guitarist. He is best known outside blues circles for writing songs later covered by Elvis Presley (and since covered by dozens of other artists), such as “That’s All Right Mama”, “My Baby Left Me” and “So glad you’re mine”, and by many claims, “Blue Suede Shoes”.
