Do you really? I mean, sure, Jon Schaffer is and has always been Iced Earth's primary songwriter. But at this point, Iced Earth is not a band anymore. And let's say Jon would be released tomorrow, what kind of musicians would he be able to hire? Do you think he would ever be able to get someone like Tim Owens? Jon Schaffer is now a tainted character, and his 'stickiness' will make it difficult for him to find good enough new musicians that won't mind being associated with a convicted felon. And let's not forget that Iced Earth was dropped by Century Media. No reputable record label would sign them, not in the age of cancel culture at least.

There are people who fight back against some lefty cancel culture. I am willing to bet there are more than a few "reputable" labels out there who would sign Iced Earth in a heartbeat. I have no doubt Jon Schaffer could round up a band of musicians. He never had that problem in the past with lineup changes. This band could come back and be more popular than ever. But that's all hypothetical, and it doesn't really matter. You can either take Iced Earth or leave them. I will always listen to them and could give a shit less about Schaffer storming a government building with some cans of bear spray. The government in this country deserves it. They suck.

Metal have always had controversial figures and even some who engaged in worse criminal activities than Schaffer. It's mostly a generational problem.

Metal has always been rebellious, mainly anti establishment. I've always known the political system has been corrupt (been corrupt since man has been around). People shocked and appalled by Jan 6th clearly are clueless about how bad the U.S. politicians really are. History has been shown time and again, most notably Abraham Lincolns assassination. It's quite sad though how one man is hated for whatever reason but ignore everything that the rest of the politicians are doing.

And being able to escape from the law for a while is even more metal. Dude is a total outlaw.

Something Wicked is one of my favourite albums by the band, although Burnt Offerings is their best.

I'm usually really good about separating the art from the artist, but when you associate yourself with absolute gutter scum and basically blackball yourself from...well...just about everything for being a gullible idiot sucking the dick of a literal criminal...its a real hard pill to swallow.

Also, starts offending right away, uses retard as an insult, yet still dares to call someone else "fascist".

Jon, early 1990's: "Dramatic, spoken word sections are super cool and every album should have them" Jon, late 1990's: "On second thought, let's drop those sections on the remasters and re-recordings" Jon, 2022: "Welp, Stu's gone. You know what I think's ready for a comeback in a big way?"

For some reason out of nowhere i had framing armageddon stuck in my head even though i havent listened to it in over a decade. It really is a better album than i remember. The one thing holsing it back from being one of the best IE albums is too many filler songs, if those songs had been developed more or cut a bit or merges into other songs, it probably would have been seen as good as TGB. It has so many sweet moments, it just was missing something that propelled it to legendary status.

Jon Schaffer was a dumb fool for going along with the attack on the Jan 6th Capital. Should have walked the other way. The left and Demonrats won't let this go blaming pro Trump conservatives. It's another political diversion which is not helping the corruption in our government. Even then I'd like to hope progress is made though It's either far right or far left policies now.

Trump conservatives deserve every single criticism hurled at them and i'm not even a Democrat. Trump's existence is a goddamn cancer on American society, going as far back to everything he did pre-politics.

Politicans are nothing but greedy bastards. They're supposed to be for the people but they do nothing but fuck everything up for everyone else. More taxes, more regulations and they pretend that they care while they continue to piss our money away. I don't get the hate for one man when the rest of the pigs in power deserve as much hate if not more of it. My view on politics is fuck them all.

Here's the thing: Your average everyday politician is one thing....Trump is another level of unholy abomination altogether. The former sucks immensely and we really do need to throw everything in the trash to start over, but the latter is far, far worse in a nuclear level. A genuinely dangerous chemical combination of shitty politician, sleazy conman & outright justice slippin' career criminal under the haphazard guise of "businessman".

We do need to start from a clean slate but, I don't see that happening. Trump was basically placed in office as a distraction from the fact the rest of the political leaders are garbage and well.. it's working. I seen the same bs during midterms, nothing changed. We got some of the worst people in office and others like JB Pritzker and Newsom are still in office. Trump should have been a wake up call but instead let's hate on this one guy to make the other scum politicians look better. Nothing changed really.

So, did they leave the band because they didn't agree with his views, or because they didn't want to ruin their career because of associations with the scandalous leader?

They left because they need to work and wouldn't wait for the prison release of Jon

I think Stu Block is politically mostly along the lines of Jon, Luke Appleton wasn't afaik. But you have to keep in mind that Jon's views were no secret even before. So it's mostly opportunistic I think, but who can blame them. He crossed a line. Before he was "just" another conservative with some ludacris views about the world, now he's a fellon.

Given the story of Brian Kendrick (professional wrestler whose career was effectively ended by an interview with Holocaust denial), it looks like a lot of people don't give a damn about this shit until it leads to some kind of high-profile scandal.

In case you're wondering why you cannot play any songs from Iced Earth via the YouTube player: because of Sony Music. All Iced Earth records were released through Century Media Records. In August 2015, Century Media was acquired by Sony Music for US$17 million. However, Sony Music blocked Last.fm from using their YouTube content. That's why you cannot play Judas Priest, Michael Jackson, System of a Down, or Iced Earth (to name a few).

I guess you could say Schaffer has a Charge To Keep hurr hurr okay obligatory piss take out the way I always knew Jon was a a bit of a nut but didn't think he'd be this fucking stupid, even more stupid than Tim Lamboobies. Congrats Jon you ruined the band for everyone. At least there's still Demons & Wizards. I'm sure Hansi will find a decent replacement. Would never happen but I'd fucking love Peavy Wagner to fill the gap.
