Produced by Kanye West and RZA, this song samples Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good.” It is an uncharacteristically personal and emotional song from Jay Z, in which both rappers speak to their unborn sons in a manner reminiscent of 2Pac’s “Letter To My Unborn Child.” Both have since had daughters.
On the fifth of December 2015, the moment for Kanye was finally there: his wife Kim Kardashian gave birth to a baby boy.
Bu Thiam, Def Jam’s Vice-President of A&R, said that the track’s concept emerged from a conversation Jay and ‘Ye were having about their impending fatherhood at the Mercer Hotel in NYC:
"So, it was just a conversation that they were talking about just having kids and how they’re gonna raise their kids because of the success that they’re having now."
