Wile listening to earlier albums, can't help but to recall visiting Moldovan villages, the smell of smoke from chimneys, the hills and fields. But also - quiet, despite how much party people Romanians are. Everything seems crooked, the fences made from wine trees, dirt pathways and roads. In places like that a lot of superstition still lives and stories are told about werewolves and vampires - the long lived characters of Romanian mythology. What secrets do the forests hide? What did these villagers witness, that they utter only through whisper to one another?

Moldavian villages are cool, but you should try Transilvanian ones... That's where the shit gets real. Anyways, I agree, the early albums are totally unique and magical pieces of musical art.

С виду интересно, кряжестые лесорубы, лесная эстетика и всё такое... Но музыка не впечатлила.

I guess this band is just not my cup of tea. The folk influences on OM are wacky and all over the place. The only song that I enjoyed, Cel din Urmă Vis, excels by being completely devoid of it and generally felt like rather an exception from the tone of the rest of the album.

Zau is far from the best, production is muddy, but it's still pretty good closure.

RIP Negru. Too bad they devolved into a boring post-black band on the last album.

Implying Varstele pamantului isn;t their weakest album. I find Zi to be excellent tho, despite being so soft

it's been my 10 years with Negura now. and i like to notice which albums, songs have prevailed over time among people, cuase however sad was the course of history to this band recently it ended for me in 2010 and with OM. musically speaking, cause i can't go beyond it, Negru was back then integral part of it which i don't imagine otherwise. to think how careful, actual and novel this record remains, grasping the moment of these years for all three of them, i'm glad we have these technologies to hold time.

I was likewise reluctant to go past Măiestrit, but having revisited their later works in the wake of Negru's death, I've concluded that Vîrstele pămîntului is wonderful. I won't say it's quite a masterpiece, since few albums compare to Om, but it's certainly a worthy follow-up. I can't actually understand the creative disagreement that caused Hupogrammos & Sol Faur's departure: Om, Vîrstele, and Dar de duh all sound like the work of the exact same band (if the latter two are a shade lighter than Om, Om is also lighter than 'n crugu bradului). It might actually be a net positive that they split into two separate acts, though, because we got at least two great albums out of it (the post-Vîrstele Negură stuff hasn't clicked for me yet, but I haven't listened to it enough to evaluate properly). Also, if you skipped Focul viu, go back and fix that, too; it's a show from 2008 with Hupogrammos & Sol Faur, and it's killer. For some reason, I don't think I realised that 'til last year either.

For me, past-Om, the remaining music was form without substance - like a train that's lost the driver and moved on intertia and the passengers hastily trying to understand the controls; conversely, the Dordeduh output - at least the only record they made at this point, - is substance with somewhat broken form. You can see from the separate pieces what the follow-up to Om would have been, and it's such a great shame that it never manifested. However I've been coming back to the NB sounds last couple of weeks, so maybe the post-split output will make more sense and resonate better now, that time has passed

Somehow I've only just heard the news. R.I.P. Negru. This band created some of my favourite metal albums of all time.

With Negură Bunget is over now. Only if Hupogrammos (co-founder with Negru) and Sol Faur put something on the paper. Hopes...

On RYM OM is ranked as the 18th best black metal album of all time., which is HUGE overstatement of how good these guys are. Nothing they do isnt anything other atmospheric BM bands havent already done

i won't argue about the other NB albums, but OM is hands down a cult BM masterpiece, that they themselves weren't able to surpass, neither as NB nor as Dordeduh. It absolutely deserves 18th place, and probably even a tad higher. I would very much like to know what are those "other atm. BM bands" you keep referring to, and a couple of album examples you think are more atmospheric and monumental than OM, please.

Yes that's true, but the fact is that black metal scene has improved since Om, especially for the last couple of years. I've given Zi a full spin twice, and It's better than Om tbh but the question is that were there good material when Om was released campared to what we have now? We can't deny Om was a masterpiece back then, and it still is.

I really like Zi, but you are both crazy saying that all those albums after Om are better than Om, sorry :(

WTF happened to growls (and nice clean vocals)? Instrumentally it's really nice, ethereal.

Fellow Romanian dudes, can you please stop being drama queens and re-unite already? Aren't you like, in your 40s or something? Sacrifice your crappy timișorean-ish friendships in order to create decent music again. No one cares about your drumming skills or guitar skills as long as your music sucks, and both your last LP and Dor de Duh's are hilariously aimless.

"Cumpăna" (Vîrstele pămîntului bonus track) sounds like it's from OM era, and even the vocals are Hupogrammos-ish. Any info about the track?
