“opposite” serves as the first deluxe track on emails i can’t send fwd:, the re-issue of Sabrina Carpenter’s fifth studio album. Carpenter starts with saying she could’ve changed to be this person her lover wanted, but it wouldn’t work, because he didn’t want her. Carpenter seems to be jealous of an ex’s new girl, and knowing if she would change herself to be that person’s one interest, they would still go to this new person.
The track was teased in an email Carpenter sent to her fans which she titled, announcements i can’t make. In the email there was a folder, when you clicked on it, it took you to a page which was a teaser for this song.
