Sun Ra did lots of things with many different synthesizers. He visited Bob Moog's factory in 1969, tested and was leant a Minimoog prototype, which he immediately incorporated into his recordings and concerts. Check out 'Space Probe' from My Brother the Wind (1969), for Ra's pioneering synth jazz. Read more about it here: https://moogfoundation.org/sun-ra-the-minimoog-by-historian-thom-holmes/

Woah man, totally psychedelic! To believe Sun Ra was closing in on 60 when this came out, he definitely wasn't growing conservative as he got older. "Do you know the lyrics for this track?" Um, I think I can make them out on my own.

a lotta fun singing along with this. artists like Sun Ra and Richard Youngs inspire me to sweetly sing along with any sort of mess of sound ^_^

So many versions of this by many incarnations of the Arkestra. This time is the very groovy "single version" of only just over three minutes. Marvellous

This is kind of a distant cousin to Coltrane's "A Love Supreme", simultaneously more out there and more earthbound, but just as intense.

In the beginning was nothing, then nothing turned itself inside out and there was something. Space IS the place

Would you believe, 3 years on last fm and this is the first time this comes up on my player? Cosmic brother Sun Ra, never to be forgotten.

HA... that DOES sound like ODB! But it makes sense that Sun Ra's music would sound vaguely like hip hop. If George Clinton is considered one of the godfathers of hip hop, then certianly Sun Ra could be considered one of hip hop's "grandfathers."
