Biography

The Death of Music was a metal band formed in Orpington, Kent in its current incarnation in late 2012, but is currently based in Canterbury and consisting of Philip Whitehead (vocals, guitar), Adam Rhodes (bass guitar), Henry Evans (drums) and Tanis Izli (guitar, vocals).

The foundations of the band were first laid down in late 2011 when James Carty and Philip Whitehead performed a set together at their school's music night, with Jamie McGuire on drums. At this time they referred to themselves as "Metallic Death Sponge", a name thought up by friend of the band Josh Cole. Though not officially a band at the time, sole remaining founder Whitehead regards this as the official formation of the band.

By the turn of the year the two had hopes of forming a more permanent project, and as such drafted in Eight Days From Sunday members Ben Brazier and Lewis Fife to perform rhythm guitar/vocals and drums, respectively, becoming "Against All Odds". As a result of their respective backgrounds, the band draws influence from across the punk and metal spectra.

In November 2012 after months of inactivity with members doing other things (Whitehead soon became permanent bassist at Eight Days From Sunday), Whitehead rebranded the project as The Death Of Music with drummer/guitarist Ozzie Evans of Surrender the Day. The band was rounded out with the addition of bassist Eloise Mee and drummer Steven Hughes, who only lasted a couple of weeks before being replaced by Lewis Burke. More turbulence in the band lineup led Whitehead to relocate the band to Canterbury in September 2013, drafting in Adam Rhodes on bass and Henry Evans on drums, with Tanis Izli joining in December of that year. After playing throughout 2014, the band decided to enter an indefinite hiatus and instead focus on a metalcore project, Vantablack.
