he’s great to throw on when you want to wind down for the night, before putting on something sleepier

I hadn't heard Futrue Perfect before. Liked it while watching and it was such a pleasant surprise to know it was made by them. Need to listen to more of their stuff

i love that after all these years so many of us are still discovering the durutti column. i went to the youtube section and there are many people who have started listening to them thanks to the bear. personally, i was introduced to the durutti column by 24 hour party people :-)

Steven Wilson's new podcast brought me to The Durutti Column and I don't regret it!

Градус созерцательности в его вещах настолько зашкаливает, что не может оставить равнодушным.

The 'post-rock' tag is more to do with context rather than content; the where and when the band was from, the record label and who they/he played with and so on. If today I was to hear this music for the first time then I would guess at a mid-naughties Chicago band on Thrill Jockey, there are a few tracks where the guitar does remind me very much of The Sea and Cake.

"The basic idea behind Durutti Column’s music is to break with whatever structure supports the foundations of musical formalism, in order to try and create a kind of music which really can belong to everyone." lmao dude what

idk what barriers ~musical formalism~ has set up that this pretty good instrumental guitar music is transcending

Whenever I saw The Durutti Column mentioned somewhere, I always pictured them as an angry, moody, sharp-edged post-punk formation. Finally gave it a listen myself and boy am I surprised. In a pleasant way. This is way more delicate and beautiful than I ever expected it to be. Glad I started listening to them. Also, the guy behind Orange Cake Mix definitely was a fan of Vini Reilly.

If I had to choose a "most experimental" it would be Without Mercy, if only because it's a pair of 20 minute suites that works as a symphony in miniature. It's still both alien yet catchy and gorgeous as anything else he's done.
