I love the Bee-Gees, the Go-Betweens, the Dune Rats, Railroad Gin. I reckon the Butterfly Effect & Powderfinger are pretty ok, too. But the first Brisbane band I think of with pride, being a Brisbane boy myself, was always the Saints. Chris Bailey, the singer, a songwriter & only constant member throughout the band's history just passed away. Their first album "I'm Stranded" was ground zero for punk in Australia. Eternally Yours followed soon after retaining the energy & aggression but adding a horn section of all things. Chris Bailey lead the Saints after the departure of the amazingly talented songwriter & guitarist Ed Keupper through one heck of a musical adventure. Springsteen even covered one of his songs. I don't know much at all about Chris as a man. I hope he was happy in life. He changed the musical landscape in Australia. The shockwaves of the Saints were so great they could even be felt overseas. Running out of space here - I've rambled enough anyway. Rest easy, Chris Bailey

The music & their energy has aged well. Their sound changed every record. They remained at the very least, interesting, and at best vital. Even in our hometown of Brisbane, they’re not household names, although if you meet a serious muso they’ll rave long and hard about the Saints, as they should.

They were really good in their mid 80s pop rock phase. The punk records were so-so

есть пара неплохих песен, на втором альбоме даже небезынтересные аранжировки, но в целом - калька с ramones

@KiwiFlash, what's wrong with The Ramones? The Ramones and The Saints are equally good, don't be a bitch and hate on one and like the other

They don't sound punk, let alone like the Ramones. Good though. And great story from flashbleu.

I once saw Chris Bailey solo in Hobart. He dealt with a heckler by getting him to go on stage and try and do better. While the poor sap was standing there with a guitar getting booed, Chris came up to me and chatted. He said it was probably against his socialist principles watching someone else work whilst he got paid but what the hell. I promised him a drink if he played Grain Of Sand. He said he'd play it anyway and as soon as he got back on stage, he did. I bought him the drink anyway. Will always respect this man.
