I really liked this one, I don't get it, this is a recent recording, and Maynard still did that scream, sure it wasn't as powerful as the original from 1992, but still it was pretty good, so I don't understand why 'Fear Inoculum' had no scream at all, at one part of 7empest I was thinking he might do a scream, but no.. I mean the music on F.I. some parts would fit for that classic Maynard scream, and this recording of Opiate proves that he can still do it.

I've been thinking about this shout ever since I saw it. I love your profile (so I was hesitant to reply) but I wholly disagree. I have never once thought that the appeal of Tool is Maynard 'screaming'. To me, the joy of Tool is every member of the band meshing together to create this perfect tension/anger dynamic. Part of why I love FI so much is that restraint, almost a meditation on past vitriol (though the album is still heavy). That's just how I view it, music is subjective after all.

Ok, I don't have to like every Fear Inoculum to be a Tool fan... I was playing TOOL since 2006 bro. And compared to all their previous stuff Fear Inoculum is kinda boring. But thanks for liking my profile, we just have to agree to disagree I guess bro.

tension/anger dynamic is not really there, it is a whole long build up, and Maynard blueballed us in Tempest when it was building up to what I thought will be Maynard's classic long scream, but nope, he didn't do it, so my point is true - he can do it on Opiate 2, but he didn't do it in 7empest, which in my opinion would make that song better, but whatever it is what it is.

reminds me a little bit that time they did a new version of 'Pushit' for Salival.

Taking it back to the beginning, Tool celebrates the 30th anniversary of their first commercially-available release, Opiate, with a re-imagined and extended version of the EP’s title track and an accompanying short film. “Opiate2” (pronounced Opiate Squared) is available via streaming services on March 1, with the Blu-ray only visual companion available on March 18.

This is cool, the long middle section sounds like it should have been on Lateralus

I think it lacks the energy of the original but still solid enough. Last minute or so was really good

I'm not too familiar with the original but this was really good. I really have to check out the whole Opiate EP soon.

their music takes time to be produced, written and performed, they are virtuosos who want to release a high quality product with each release, without legal battles ahead is fair to assume they'll be taking half of that time to release new music.
