i feel you on the live shows thing--ive always much preferred music as a studio art best enjoyed alone, but if im gonna truly commit to this pop thing it seems ive gotta get up on a stage and sell alcohol for bars. plus sometimes it can be kind of fun. id be down to make some music or just hang sometime, now that the two albums are pretty much done im tryna be more of a social human for a little while and not be either at my job or in my bedroom.. this weeks already startin to look real busy but id be down to hang next week sometime! glad you like the boys and i--lightning bug is a bit of an emotional thing, as times gone on ive kinda been less and less involved for a buncha different reasons.. its been a bummer but i suppose thats life sometimes!

so that leads me to-----no fucking way man!! i've listened to your album on the internet before : ) small fucking internet right? so weird. i remember you or your friend(s) posted it once and im pretty sure i went out of the way to acknowledge that it was the only good thing in the thread.... do you guys ever do shows? my bands are going to be doing lots of shows in 2015, we should do some together!!!! the 1 of the 1.5 is this: http://thesweetboys.bandcamp.com/ and the .5 is this: http://lightning-bug.bandcamp.com/ stylistically the last 3 years was my experimental descent into the world of "pop music", yknow, playing by cliches, singing and playing a guitar, writing music that speaks a common compositional vernacular, honing in on a clear motive instead of relying on pure abstraction, yknow. excited to get these records out and hopefully move on. i think ive become nauseated once again by the present day modus operandi of pop... oh john, please come to nyc i want to yell w/ you

yeah dan is seriously the man. spiderman/bromst seriously helped me get through being a teenager (not that I was in any actual danger though). also im starting to really understand why ariel is your overall top played--it took getting into john for me to understand ariel, now im listening to doldrums and before today (which id heard very minimally in highschool) and it's like, holy fuck!!! this dude is unbelievable... and still so many albums left to dissect... but for now ive got my work cut out for me with doldrums/before today... as for why i stopped feeling decent, i wish i knew! my dumber brain would love to go and blame the environment of NYC for fucking with my state of mind but of course thatd be missing the point that 'psychosis' is a self-realized activity! i dont mean to get all whiny and self loathing (cuz no ones got time for 'that guy')--in some ways i do still feel decent, i just KNOW i can be doing a better job of decency than this... holy cow 1000 characters already?

yeah id say spiderman of the rings is a bit of a straight up masterpiece as far as resonating with a certain youthful longing for simultaneous self-destruction and omnipresent love in spite of the absurd world we find ourselves in. that all really comes from the track Wham City which i sometimes think is his most powerful statement. and aside from all the transcendental shit, what a bunch of great textures/melodies/arrangements right!? ..yea i seriously miss my parents house and their baby grand piano... can i hear your music somewhere?? a decent man ended after that one album probably because i stopped feeling decent ; ( but im in 1.5 bands that both have LPs coming out soon so i think that's good. yeah ive been seriously digging thru john's archived past--found what's left of his and ariel's old blog on the waybackmachine--all i can really find is john's last few posts about how much he hates himself. he is so loveable... thanksgiving was nice hope you ate potatoes

spiderman of the rings + bromst are both utterly fantastic/genius/fun/beautiful/silly/poignant albums, those are in some ways pretty much all i need from dan deacon with a few deep cuts spread across his other obscure albums, spiderman is prolly good to start just to see where he came from/his development/whateva. piano/black n white keyboard is my love but i also sometimes enjoy singing/guitar/semi-endless possibilities of digital sound via sequencers/samplers etc. what about you?? the nature inspired album you describe is p much half of how the album on my bandcamp came about when i was living in connecticut :3 yeah ive been meaning to check out holy shit for a while, this week im just way too obsessed with john maus, i was reading his love letters to the girl from bennington, theyre so sad/creepy/beautiful/pitiful/endearing. hes such a qt

yea i suppose youre right--being able to go to state school in NYC seems pretty sick, i was always jealous of the SUNY purchase kids that got to go there for so cheap, that school seemed great! the dan deacon show i saw there in 2008 or 9 was probably the best show ive ever seen. i just graduated this year actually, kinda in a weird transitional stasis vibe, lookin to get outta the city and back into some leafier places. hazy field people does rule : ) my faves are 1 2 3 of me and smile heavy. been meaning to check out more ariel, it warms my heart that him and john maus were really tight back in the day.

nah im gonna ask him what the heck if he comes on mu tonight. thats refreshing actually--these days it seems like an ongoing joke that every single person going to nyc is currently attending nyu. i studied music at nyu but now im falling into that mindset i knew i was going to have the whole time i was going there of why the heck did i go to college for music?? cool that yer most played bmsr track is from start a people, usually i think thats his most transcendental album.
