Holy shit, I've been mishearing the first verse as "The sweet pretty things..aah..I'm getting off-course" for YEARS now. I thought that was a genius opening line haha, since the song was JUST starting. I feel sad now.

I'm finally getting into my Bob Dylan era by actually reading the lyrics as well as going deeper into his discography (and reading more about his career) .. I used to only listen to "Highway 61 Revisited" exclusively, basically.

I wish I could write you a melody so plain, that would hold you dear lady from going insane, that would ease you and cool you and cease the pain, of your useless and pointless knowledge

the unfortunate thing about Dylan's music is that stuck-up rock critics made their careers writing pretentious idiotic crap about it

Dylan sounds extra good in this song... love the sound. Punk? - yea I can hear that. 60s punk... I'll tag it so.

Taken from Highway 61 Revisited...each track displays - not only Dylan's mastery of words - the stunning guitar playing of Michael Bloomfield. At 21 years of age when he recorded the album with Dylan, Bloomfield was amazing. Tombstone Blues is fun to listen to the characterizations of historical figures Dylan skewers.

Jack the Ripper sits at the Chamber of Commerce Head. Took be 53 years to connect to this. I discovered the same thing in the 1980s, but, had stopped listening to Dylan in the 60s. I thought, erroneously, that I had out grown him. I knew he was a great poet, musician and doper, but, I let him go home to early.

Fuck, I love how this song! How it starts shaking and rumbling after Like A Rolling Stone on "Highway 61" - one of the best moments in music history! “The sun’s not yellow, it’s chicken!”

Tombstone Pizza is pretty good Bob, but I don't know if you have to write a song about it.
